Valentine Fun with the Kids!

So, it is that time of year again...it is cold outside and the kids are parked in front of the T.V.  They are getting restless, but with wind chills here last night of -15 degrees it is hard to find activities to do outside.

My kids love creating things.  I share my "craft room" with them and they love it!  You don't have to be crafty to make Valentine boxes and cards for family and friends.  It is time to relieve that winter time boredom!  It most cases you don't even have to spend money, but can find things around your house to use.

Last year I got a note sent home from school that my daughter needed to make a Valentine mailbox for Valentine's Day at school.  There wasn't a single shoe box to be found, so I literally had to think outside the box!  I searched around the house for something to use and came upon a kleenex box. I wrapped it in wrapping paper, stapled tulle around the edges, my daughter cut out hearts, and she decorated her box with stickers, rhinestones, glitter and other items we had around the house.  Who doesn't have an extra kleenex box this time of year?  Leftover red, silver, or gold wrapping paper makes an excellent cover.  I wish I had saved a picture.  It turned out really cute!  Here is a picture for an example of the tulle before the box was decorated.  The hole in the top of the kleenex box is perfect for the Valentine's!

As for making Valentine's, there are many cute ideas online.  Family Fun Magazine has a very cute Sweet Mice Valentine (an example is shown below) with videos, templates and instructions all online.  You don't have to be creative, there are lots of Valentine Card ideas even on google!
