Today I thought I would write about my youngest daughter. I call her my little hippie since last summer when she had on her yellow bathing suit and pink sunglasses singing with a guitar on the platform of her playhouse. Her lyrics are actually quite comical. I'm not sure how she comes up with them, but you find yourself laughing hysterically at the innocent truth behind them.
The reason I chose to write about her is that this quality at times can be quite challenging for a mom. You would think since she likes cameras (she has had her own hot pink digital one since she was 4) and LOVES to take pictures that taking pictures for my site would be easy. Think again! Although you do have to laugh at some of the crazy, priceless pictures that come out of it. Half of them are unusable because she can't sit still and another quarter are quite funny.
I do think though we can learn a lot from her. I envy her carefree attitude on life. The only thing that seems to greatly upset her is when she perceives someone is "mean" to her. She loves tickle fights so much that over the holidays she collapsed my 93 year old grandmother's bed pursuing a tickle fight with her sister. Keep in mind we had been in a car fighting snow for over 9 1/2 hours. I was deliriously laughing while my husband tried to get the slats of the 50+ year old bed back under the mattress as it kept tumbling down. Meanwhile, she informs me that my grandmother is locked out of her bathroom...I wonder how that happened :) There have been many stressful holidays at my grandmother's. We have broken 2 globes of an antique lamp, knocked one of those vines that just need water to live over (that was very messy considering there is no dirt), and broken many ceramic pieces. I joked that we broke things at Thanksgiving and I always had to bring super glue at Christmas to put the pieces back together. These are memories that I will cherish forever!
My mother had asked what she wanted for Christmas. This child is highly influenced by those lovely infomercials on T.V. She was dying to have that light up pillow. Keep in mind as she gets tired, she winds up with energy. My mother informed me the next morning that she could see the red lights of the pillow through her closed eyelids all night (just glad it wasn't me!!).
With all of this said, I have mellowed out over the years. I have to look at each situation and mostly enjoy her spirit. I could easily get mad, but most of her actions are done so innocently and reflected in her personality. I know children can test us at times, but please enjoy them while you can. I joke that after my first was born, I easily gave up coffee soon afterwards. When the second was born...I haven't been able to give it up yet! Up until about a year ago (so 4 very long years), she would wake up every morning between 2-4 a.m., go into the bathroom, I could see the lights go on, hear the toilet flush, water running, and then all of the sudden this little head would pop up on the side of the bed and say "Good morning, Mommy!" She would crawl into bed and snuggle with me. I sure miss those days!
